May was a large month for Saint John and the ICT sector that’s at the heart of Brick Park. Early in the month saw the second instalment of Innovation Week – an annual event that happens across the province. And the end of the month was punctuated by the announcement of federal funding to support Enterprise Saint John’s Smart & Connected Community Data Strategy.
Saint John Innovation Week, which occurred May 4th through 12th, 2017, featured a number of events happening throughout Brick Park – highlighting some of the city’s leading innovators and advisors, and offering community members an opportunity to learn from their expertise.
Through its Faces of Innovation spotlight, Enterprise Saint John introduced some of the city’s ICT leaders; those who are shedding new light on their approach to tech and data where they work. We’re talking leaders who are developing technologies that will address some of society’s most pressing data needs –like Amy Winchester, an environmental engineer from CBCL, Jamie Stewart of EhEye Inc., and advisors like Moosehead Breweries’ Ltd.’s Patrick Parent.

As a function of its role as a driver of strategic economic growth in the region, Enterprise Saint John developed the Smart & Connected Community Data Strategy. The project, which is featured in this month’s edition of Brick Park Online, identifies opportunities to: drive wireless connectivity in Saint John’s uptown core/Brick Park; create an infrastructure that supports researchers and innovators; and build on data expertise and capabilities that will lead to research and development, and commercialization of ideas.
A focal part of the Brick Park community is its members’ commitment to the evolution of technology and our culture of connectedness – both within the human network and the digital network. This collaboration continues to be strong, and these latest events and announcements demonstrate the growing commitment of those within the community to nurture and spur innovation.
